horror

I am a big big fan of horror movies.  But I much prefer monsters, sci fi, and paranormal horror to torture and hillbilly cannibalism.  So if your favorite horror creatures chew tobbacco, carry axes and wear aprons that go to their knees, we are likely not going to have the same taste in viewing entertainment.  I like a good thrill, but I also really like artsy horror, so my list here includes oldies and curios.

  • Carnival of Souls
  • Vampyr
  • Nosferatu
  • Suspiria
  • Bucket of Blood
  • The Omen
  • Frankenstein
  • Bride of Frankenstein
  • The Werewolf
  • I Bury the Living
  • The Wickerman (Christopher Lee version)
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde (1932)
  • The Body Snatcher
  • The Lodger
  • Creature from the Black Lagoon
  • The Wolfman
  • The Others
  • The Ring (also Ringu)
  • Dark Water
  • The Skeleton Key
  • Cronos
  • The Secret Window
  • Identity
  • The Number 23

  • Shutter Island (though maybe this goes in action?)
  1. 🙂
good, i look forward to some fun discussions with you on these and other dark movies!

  2. Not a bad list, although not as extensive as I would have thought.

What’s your opinion on old school werewolf flicks like; An American Werewolf in London, The Wolfman, The Howling, Ginger Snaps etc?

Or how about cult classics like Evil Dead, The Thing, Night of the Living Dead?

I think I would have to make a top 100 rather than a top 7 – Far too many classics out there to overlook so many

    • this is just the start of my list. these are some of my favorite favorites, but i will be adding more. i just had to run out and take some pictures of local flair before heading off to work. more to com…

    • so, back from work …
i loved the Wolfman. i thought it a beautiful take on an innocent and almost naieve character who then suffers a tragic life and brutal ending. we all have some dark in us, so i hate seeing some of these ‘monsters’ killed off in the old movies.

Ginger Snaps was totally fun, and i really liked the two leads. i only saw the first two of the series but enjoyed them.

The Howling i liked, but don’t often re-visit. i should probably see this one again.

American Werewolf in London is a super classic, but i have to say that the others i’ve listed i enjoyed even more.

The Thing is incredible, and i recently watched The Thing From Another World, which is equally wonderful, and witty as well.

The Evil Dead, believe it or not, i haven’t seen!!! i’ve rented it a billion times and then still haven’t gotten around to actually viewing. still on my list…

Night of the Living Dead is fantastic and i’ve put it on my list here.

i will be adding to this list still, because there are other movies i’ve seen and loved but don’t remember the titles for. and of course as i see new ones that i love they will go up as well.

so, thanks for asking about all these great movies…let’s keep the discussion rolling!

    • Mr. Horror:
what is your FAVORITE horror movie?
mine is “The Omen”… i’d love to hear which one yours is

      • Ah now THAT’s a list!

I didn’t think there was anyone left who hasn’t seen Evil Dead. Make sure you see it before they remake it next year, otherwise you won’t have anything to base your opinions on when (hopefully) you criticise it – As you can tell I’m not a fan of remakes… Stick to the originals and you can’t go wrong.

As for my favourite horror movie, I can honestly say I don’t have one! (not just an excuse – I’m serious) I think that’s why I would have to do a top 100, and even then I would probably feel bad for not including certain films.

It all depends on what mood i’m in I think…

But this is a great list so far – puts a lot of my worries at ease 🙂

I’ll keep an eye on it!
