Crop Circles

ok, so I WANT TO BELIEVE.  oh.  you guys are too young to get that.  that’s from the X-FILES.  ummmm.  yeah, which was a tv show a couple decades ago that was popular, and a science fiction type deal.  damn i’m old.

anyway i digress…i am comfortable with the possibilities:  life on other planets.  time travel.  the loch ness monster.  i know people who are certain about everything in life, because they read a book that told them how things are and how they will be.  i’m not certain of anything.  not because i didn’t read the book – because i did – but because there is so much i don’t know about the world.  so much WE don’t know, so many unproven, unexplored, unconsidered things … how could you be certain of anything?

so when i consider something like crop circles…

well, how do i know how they got there?  sure, some people say they were made by a lawn mower, or cleverly placing heavy objects on the grass, but what do i know?  it’s possible that aliens used their etch-a-sketch to create fabulous field art.

like this squirrel did here… clearly the aliens wouldn’t be interested in doing anything as small scale as this, so i’m thinking the squirrel people or maybe the groundhogs pulled this off in the middle of the night, when no passersby could ask them what they were doing

two favorite colors

these are my two favorite colors!   or maybe, two of my favorite colors.  OR BOTH!!  😀

I Love Spring!

i will miss you.2

another lovely i will miss…

i will miss you…

the frigid she

driving in to work today was sort of like being delirious.  i’m not the biggest fan of winter, cold weather, or freezing my toes and/or nipples off.  i’m a Southern California kind of girl, and still think of winter as something rainy and foggy, with an added inconvenience of sweatshirts and actually having to wear socks for a change.

last night was the first snow of the year, and it DUMPED on us.  (pictures coming later this evening)  we must have gotten six inches or so, and despite the reality of this snow coming with COLD, it was quite beautiful this morning.

the trees lining the road were all dripping with white, little leaves or berries poking their heads out of the mush.  familiar, mundane streets sparkled in the sun covered in a dusting of diamonds.  and the Michigan sky – usually a flat blanket of grey overcast – was a bright cheery blue, making me forget that winter is evil, and almost convincing me that this season has some value and merit.

of course, we’ll see how i feel in february…

but for now, it’s beautiful.

dichotomy

i don’t know what is going on with wordpress, but apparently i can only upload one image right now.  so here it is…

i love the way everything is at odds with each other, and yet best friends as well.  the sky looks cold and frigid (29 degrees yesterday when i took this) and yet pockets of light here and there make the sky seem hopeful, and like it is considering whether to allow the sun to show through.

the tree is practically barren; shedding all its leaves over the last few weeks has made it feel rather lonely.  and yet, the sassy, polka dot texture of the bark is almost giving a finger to winter, saying “i don’t care if it’s mind blowingly cold…i’m going to be cute anyway!”

around town .3

some days every little thing seems to catch my eye…the odd way a squirrel hangs in a tree, looking uncannily like a trapeze artist; the moody feel of light reflecting from downpouring rain (like, how does the light bounce off those little droplets when they are moving so fast?); the happy drunk couple that seem to love each other so much, but are really probably so pickled they don’t realize they are cousins.

on this day the quirky patterns of nature drew my attention.  this is the tree outside our front door, and it’s so lovely i want to make a dress out of it!

On The Seventh Day God Created Allergies

One day, God decided He was kind of bored.  Being Omnipotent and Omnipresent isn’t all that exciting if you’re the only One that knows about it.  So God decided to build Himself some playmates.

Now God – who is an all-or-nothing kind of Being – got to work right away.  He imagined a world of danger and beauty.  He imagined lovely landscapes and frightening thunder storms.  He wanted raucous noises and scary animals.  He felt like making gorgeous trees and whimsical flowers.  His imagination was active and fertile, once He figured out he was going to build His own play town.

And so He worked.  He worked all through the night, and then He decided to make day, so He could keep working but see what He was doing better.  And He kept going.  Oceans, chimpanzees, sea anemones, volcanoes, bats.  Animals on top of things, critters underneath, and everywhere around: wind, air, song and scent.

God is sometimes a bit intense, and also a workaholic.  He didn’t have to make so many of the things in the ocean beautiful; most that stuff never gets seen, or played with.  But he likes stripes and polka dots and glow in the dark motifs, so everything has the chance to be strikingly gorgeous.  Except for hyenas.  Poor things.  They must have really pissed Him off somehow.  And God being the workaholic type, He isn’t prone to taking coffee breaks.  He’d made the beans by this point, but not the Mr. Coffee drip pots.  But He wanted a chance to view His handiwork and pat Himself on the back, and He really needed a break.  So in order to make Himself feel better – less guilty for just hanging around when He could be working on the next batch of Alien Life Forms – He created allergies.  Everyone knows that when allergies hit, you’re not worth anything.  All you can do is sleep, whine, sniff, and flip the remote control button a thousand times per minute.  Now, God didn’t have a remote, but He did have the allergies; so He just sat and sat on the seventh day, reclined back in His cloud-stuffed LAY-Z-BOY, surveyed His creation, and had a good nap.

And that’s why you get nothing done during ragweed season.

accidental happiness: poncho

so those of you who have been reading my post may already know about “Poncho”.

when i walk in the mornings Poncho is in the first park i come to.

when Poncho was first planted, i was worried he wouldn’t make it through the winter.  i suppose that was silly, but he looked so small compared to all the other trees in the park, and he was just a baby!  so i sat with him one day and talked to him, and circled him with something, i don’t remember what.  stones?  acorns?  flowers?  i spread something in a circle around him, like Linus puts his blanket around the Christmas tree in the Charlie Brown Christmas episode.

and now he’s the cutest tree ever!  look at those eyes!  how does a tree grow eyes like this?  he looks like one of the characters from the movie 9!!

anyway, i wanted to share his pictures, ‘cause he’s so handsome.
