not hoarding…CREATING

i get crap occasionally for being too much of a hoarder … errr … COLLECTOR.  well, sometimes there is a method to my madness.  (more usually, a madness to my methods)

this for instance:

this is Herman.  found him at a thrift store for maybe .39 cents.  one day he seemed to need a tie, so i found this ribbon i’d been holding onto for probably seven years.  then my sister got rid of an old game of “ants in the pants” from when she was watching some little tyke.  now, the game sucks if you are over 2.5 years, and/or can do small mental tasks like reason out the name of yourself.  but THE PANTS!  so i stuck Herman in the pants, and he is so very dapper, he has to stand next to the TV now and show himself off.  truly adorable, and very entertaining to boot.

fashionable drunkenness

i love these little … whatever they ares.  got them during my birthday bash weekend for less than a buck each.  they are so cute, and have been handy so far for ice cream (better portions than when i use a cereal bowl!!!) and also MARGARITAS!!  LOVE THEM

i love the color, very retro feeling so that i feel groovy while i’m getting smashed!  (by the by, that’s our stuffed monkey hanging from the blinds in the background, and a sticky skull)

though i have to admit my mind isn’t really on the  great colored glass when i’m putting down the margaritas.  and lately it seems like even just one of these little glasses is enough to make me topple-overy.    is it just that i’m getting older?  does everyone become a severe light weight with age?

accidental happines ~ stardate: 5:18:2012

so i mentioned doing some thrifting on my birthday in a recent post.  whew!  last weekend was a flurry of activity.  we went to garage sales, thrift stores and flea markets, and i walked away with treasures galore!  a good little bit of activity out in the sun gave me some much needed skin color (though i guess “pasty white” is a common enough color in Michigan) and an outdoor DJ at the flea market made me want to linger even after my treasures were secured.

here is one more of my finds from that weekend, from a thrift store by my sister’s work.  it was love at first sight for me, and doubly so when i sat down in it; it rocks, swivels, and is the perfect size and length to stretch out a bit with a good book.

it’s vinyl and smells vaguely of coconut incense.  which is way better than smelling like an old people’s thrift store, which some of my treasures have started off doing.

i had to give it a thorough cleaning, as it looked like it had

been abandoned in someone’s attic for some time.  but here it is all shiny and new!

flea market finds and thieving husbands

i loved this pillow so much.  i saw it at the flea market where i got the booze bottles, and it had a small chewed up hole on one corner.  obviously someone’s dog thought it was charming too.  🙂  they sold it off for only a quarter, while the woman yelled at me that insulators are for receiving lightning so your house doesn’t burn up. OK!  i mean, she actually yelled at me.  i should have made her drop the price to a dime just for being rude.  but it was hot out, and her table was directly in the sun with no tent or awning, so i’m sure it was the heat that was making her bitchy…errr…enthusiastic.

i cut an Ikea shopping bag in two and made the halves into ‘purse pillows’ cause i thought they looked so cute together.  now she looks like a thoroughly distressed shopper who just missed the sale of the decade.  or discovered her husband left her and took her favorite Kate Spade purse on accident.

(by the by, the chair – though not well pictured – was also a steal.  found a set of them, old parlour chairs, at a Goodwill for only 6.00 each.  i plan to redo the fabric.  you can’t see how cute the shape is, but they are CHARMING!)

flea market finds part 2

booze bottles i fell in love with a month ago… luckily for me, by waiting a month for the next flea market i was able to get them both for 4.00 less than they wanted last time!  sometimes it pays to wait.  (glad i didn’t miss them though, how cute are they!?!)

birthday bash

so Friday was my birthday, and i had an AMAZING weekend.  for years now i’ve been itching to do some artwork with an eclectic assortment of articles.  and i don’t know exactly what i’ll be doing, but i’m formulating some ideas.  so this weekend i hit the garage sale circuit in search of treasures.  i won’t have time today to put up pictures of all my goodies, but i’ll add on bit by bit, like a terribly unexciting anticlimactic play you’ll be half heartedly interested in.  but hey, it makes MY heart palpitate!  😉

that whole saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is somewhat trite, but nonetheless completely true.  i went to a thrift store, an antique boutique, a flea market and a whole passel of garage sales, and found tons of goodies!  retro chairs, art supplies, knick knacks and even a killer pair of brand new Ed Hardy shoes for $3.99!!!!   SAWEEET!!

lots of pics to come, but as i’m on my way to work i’ll put up my dearest treasure first.  i was looking at an advertisement i got in the mail and saw this kooky thing for sale at a drugstore, of all places.  it was only like 15.00 USD, and i really thought it was cool, but it wasn’t like i super needed it or anything.  so i kept it on the back burner of my mind – on low/simmer so i wouldn’t fry anything in there, cause i need all the brain cells i can get – and thought i’d hope for the best.  lo and behold!!  someone had one of these things at their garage sale, and sold it off to me for AN EVEN BUCK!   what??!!  i’m sooooo excited!

it’s a Galilean Thermometer, very alchemy-ish, and i absoluetly love it!  (reading it is a little different, but hey,  when i’m hot i’m hot and i don’t need gadgets to tell me i’m hot.  they just look cool lying around!)
